THE FIVE FOOLISH CHRISTIANS
Jesus said the Kingdom of heaven is like this parable—Matthew 25:1-14
Matthew 25 Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom.2 Five of them were foolish (thoughtless, without forethought) and five were wise (sensible, intelligent, and prudent).3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they did not take any [extra] oil with them; 4 But the wise took flasks of oil along with them [also] with their lamps. 5 While the bridegroom lingered and was slow in coming, they all began nodding their heads, and they fell asleep. 6 But at midnight there was a shout, Behold, the bridegroom! Go out to meet him! 7 Then all those virgins got up and put their own lamps in order. 8 And the foolish said to the wise, Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out. 9 But the wise replied, There will not be enough for us and for you; go instead to the dealers and buy for yourselves.10 But while they were going away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were prepared went in with him to the marriage feast; and the door was shut.11 Later the other virgins also came and said, Lord, Lord, open [the door] to us! 12 But He replied, I solemnly declare to you, I do not know you [I am not acquainted with you]. 13 Watch therefore [give strict attention and be cautious and active], for you know neither the day nor the hour when the Son of Man will come.
Let's examine the differences between the five wise who entered into eternal life, and the five foolish Jesus addressed as those He wasn’t acquitted with.
Take notice all ten were waiting for the Groom. The foolish as well as the wise. They all fell asleep while waiting, the foolish and the wise as well. No difference there.
When the Groom arrived, the five foolish were taken by surprise; they weren't ready. Therefore, they went off to buy oil.
While they were gone the door was closed. When they returned they knocked and pleaded Lord, Lord let us in, but Jesus said I am not acquainted with you.
Why did He say He wasn't acquainted with them? How could that be, they were there waiting for Him just like the five others?
It must have been their intention, how were they waiting?
NO OIL NO INTENTIONS
Today we can see that the five foolish have selfish motives. One I have noted is some just play —follow the leader. They are not sure if Jesus is actually going to come, so, just in case Jesus does come, not sure He will, but just in case He does, I better hang out with those who know Him. That way if He comes I can follow them into the wedding banquet without being noticed.
This intention is to skip knowing Jesus and then still expect to be His Bride and to move in with Him. Not realizing they can’t Out of desperation, once they realize they can't, they try to sneak in. But watch what happens.
Matthew 22:11 “But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. 12 He asked, ‘How did you get in here without wedding clothes, friend?’ The man was speechless. 13 Then the king said to the attendants, Tie him hand and foot, and throw him into the darkness outside; there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.
That is a scary thing, and to think one could fool our Master anyway, how foolish is that?
Then there were those with the intention of waiting until the last minute to choose Jesus (which is waiting for Him without being engaged with Him, without falling in love with Him) in hopes that they could play catch up at the last minute.
By then it will be too late. You can’t fall in love with and be engaged with Jesus at the last minute.
Then, is too late. He is already here and because of their intention to choose Him at the last minute, He will confront them as not knowing them. Matthew 7:23 I didn’t know you.
Another intention of many —those who think they can compromise the Word and still be accepted into the Kingdom. Even though Jesus said we must do His will, we must be like Him—many have compromised and still expect Jesus to receive them.
Matthew 7:21 Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father Who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me on that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name and driven out demons in Your name and done many mighty works in Your name? 23 And then I will say to them openly (publicly), I never knew you; depart from Me, you who act wickedly [disregarding My commands] —AMPC
Lord, Lord, didn’t we do this in your name and that? Doing what you want to do, but skipping the actual mandate is denying Jesus, rebuking His will.
Not wanting to do the will of God, but wanting to live serving the flesh is living opposed to God and therefore separated from Him.
Synopsis — One can’t expect to move into the Kingdom of God if one is a foolish Christian living life by their own ideas and desires.
Living the life of following the desires of one's flesh and then at the last minute trying to do a quick change into that purified bride without spot or wrinkle dress — will not suffice. It doesn't work that way.
If you love Jesus you will lay it all down for Him now. You will take pride in who you are in Him. You will love His ways and not the world’s. You will have the understanding of the Kingdom of God needed to be prepared for that day.
You will be excited that He has arrived and will have been given permission to wear that wedding gown.
Revelation 19:7 Let us rejoice and shout for joy [exulting and triumphant]! Let us celebrate and ascribe to Him glory and honor, for the marriage of the Lamb [at last] has come, and His bride has prepared herself. 8 She has been permitted to dress in fine (radiant) linen, dazzling and white—for the fine linen is (signifies, represents) the righteousness (the upright, just, and godly living, deeds, and conduct, and right standing with God) of the saints (God’s holy people) AMPC
Those who are not ready, the foolish, will hate it that Jesus came. For them, Jesus will be that one that came like a thief in the night and stole their life from them. That life without Jesus, they were unwilling to let go of to follow Him —to be that bride no longer tainted by the desires of their flesh.
—You can’t tell Jesus you love Him at the last minute, that is counterfeiting and will be considered blasphemy.
—It is not about being a good person, but one might think that, just because they don’t know Him, nor are they committed to Him.
