NOT SURE FAITH
Did you know if you can’t make up your mind whether to believe or not, you won’t receive anything from the Lord?
James 1:5 If any of you is deficient in wisdom, let him ask of [the giving God [Who gives] to everyone liberally and ungrudgingly, without reproaching or faultfinding, and it will be given him. 6 Only it must be in faith that he asks with no wavering (no hesitating, no doubting). For the one who wavers (hesitates, doubts) is like the billowing surge out at sea that is blown hither and thither and tossed by the wind. 7 For truly, let not such a person imagine that he will receive anything [he asks for] from the Lord, 8 [For being as he is] a man of two minds (hesitating, dubious, irresolute), [he is] unstable and unreliable and uncertain about everything [he thinks, feels, decides].
God offers us His wisdom, which we need to learn of Him. Most times when we start out learning about God, we fall because we go back and forth, we waiver. One day we believe; the next we don’t believe. The reason is because we don’t know God well enough to be sure we can trust Him. We want to trust Him, but really we can’t because we don’t know Him, we’re not sure about Him yet.
Actually, it takes a decision on our part to decide we are going to believe God. In that decision then, we have to also decide we’re going to do what it takes to stay single minded, and that is taking the time to know Him. Taking the time needed to get to know Him so we can be sure we can trust Him.
Getting to know Him involves time and experience. Time to look at the Word, who is Him (John 1:1), so we can get to know Him. It is then time to practice the Word and have real experiences with Him. Both of these exercises will get rid of the double mindedness one who doesn’t know Him would naturally have!
Just like anyone else, God is a person and worth the time taken to get to know Him. Won’t you let Him know He is worth your time enough to have a relationship with Him?
