When God tells us to walk by faith and not by sight, He does not mean that we shouldn’t look where we are going, He does not mean He doesn’t want us to know, and He does not mean we live our lives not knowing what we are doing from one day to the next. What God does mean, is that we should walk (live) as He does - by faith (in His knowledge, in His wisdom), and trusting in Him.
2 Corinthians 5:7 For we walk by faith, not by sight. NKJV
Here is another version that makes what is being said even more obvious.
2 Corinthians 5:7 We live by what we believe, not by what we can see. NCV
Faith is simply believing in something, and if you think about it that is how you live. You live as you believe, what you think is true is how you will live your life. Therefore, we can believe things that are not true, and live in a false reality.
When my son got his license, he scared me when he drove because he drove as if he was invincible. He drove as if he was playing a video game, with the intention of starting a new game--if he crashed. He also stopped listening to my advice because he thought of himself as a good driver since he now had his license.
When he drove he would zoom out in traffic, he was anything but careful! Trying to tell him he was careless and taking huge chances didn't calculate with him, he was seventeen and right about everything--so he thought.
Then the day came when he was hit while he was carelessly zooming out into traffic! It was very scary and it woke him out of his blind faith. What he believed was not real. However, it wasn’t until he had the real experience of a very serious accident that he could see the truth.
He lived a false reality and suffered the consequences of what he believed to be right. He needed to know that He had to watch where he was going and move out into traffic when it was safe, instead of taking chances. He could have prevented his car from being totaled. He could have prevented the enemy from having his way in that whole situation--if he would have listened to me and had faith in my wisdom. But he didn’t, he thought he knew better, he had faith in what he believed to be true. He thought he was a good driver.
We do the same thing with God. We don’t take the time to listen to our Father, the Wise One. God has a good way for us to live and if we would take the time needed to know Him, and listen to Him direct us on a daily basis, we wouldn’t be fooled into living our lives in blind faith.
The enemy has so many fooled into thinking they don’t need to know, therefore they live on an “I don’t need to know” basis, not realizing that is not faith. They truly believe God doesn’t want them to know Him or how to live in His Kingdom, or the plans He has for them. You often hear them say, ”everything happens for a reason” (good or bad). They think that giving up knowing the will of God is faith. Not true, God didn’t say that. He said, “Have faith in God” (Mark 11:22). That means we should base our belief on His belief, not on some other theory or reasoning. Having faith in God, is being dependent on Him.
Romans 10:17 tells us faith comes from hearing His Word. John 1:1 tells us He is His Word. Therefore, when we hear His Word, we get His wisdom, His thinking, His knowledge, and His direction. Faith in God comes as we take the time to know Him, just as you take time to know your best friend, spouse, or some other person. When you take time to know someone, your confidence will grow in trusting that person, just by the experience you have with them.
That same principal will work with God. As you take time to know Him, He will reveal to you His ways. Knowing God and having experience with Him will give you great faith in Him. He will share His wisdom with you, He will tell you things to come, and He will show you and give you more than you can imagine. But, you have to take the time to know Him to get in that position.
In Hosea 4:6 God tells us we perish for a lack of knowledge. This declares the opposite of what we hear someone without God say, “we don’t need to know“. Therefore we can see that statement is a lie. We need God's knowledge, His opinion, His thinking, and we need His direction to live in His Kingdom. When we have God's knowledge we will be able to recognize the lie of the enemy and we will break the control he has over us.
Remember we live by what we think is true. The enemy wants to get us to live his lies and when he does, he controls us by our thinking.
God gave us His Word, which is Him so we could live by His thinking, have His wisdom, and live as over-comers, His highest way to live. That is His intention.
John 10:10 The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows). AMP
The enemy is most successful in stealing revelation knowledge from us, by keeping the Word who is God, from us. He is the voice who says you don't need to read the Word, you cant understand it, it is too boring, and you don’t need to know. He tells the lie God is a mystery, you are not to know. In summation the lie he is telling is, we should walk in the dark. But Jesus said walk in the light, and the way to walk in the light is to have fellowship with God.
1 John 1: 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not know the truth: 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. KJV
Having fellowship is an exchange of hearts. God is going to share Himself with you as you seek to have relationship with Him (1 Corinthians 2:16). Jesus said in John 15 that we are His friends and He would reveal all He knew from the Father, with us.
Jesus also said in Mark 4 that those that are His, He will reveal the mysteries of the Kingdom of God. That means the only way God should be a mystery to someone, is if they are not choosing God.
Mark 4:11 And He said to them, To you has been entrusted the mystery of the kingdom of God [that is, the secret counsels of God which are hidden from the ungodly]; but for those outside [of our circle] everything becomes a parable,
God didn’t mean for us to be ignorant of His ways, but full of His knowledge and living as wise representatives of His, walking in His likeness, as His children. Living in faith in Him, believing Him, honoring Him as the One who knows it all.
He said to imitate Him, which is walking in surety and light!
