Did you ever wonder why God didn't want Adam and Eve to know the difference between good and evil?
Think about it, when you have kids don't you protect them from evil? You don't want their eyes to even meet certain things and so you keep the innocent all long as possible. Until they grow up and start making their own decisions you influence them the best you can.
So what makes God any different? He loved Adam and Eve and was protecting them from evil when He gave them direction. Before they ate off of the tree they only knew God, they only knew good and had no desire to drift off away from God until they were influenced by the enemy to do so.
Once they ate from the tree they started feeling shame immediately. And in fact hid from God. If your kids do something behind your back, they are ashamed because they know they did wrong and the same as Adam and Eve they hide what they did from you. Not feeling special and cared for anymore they hide their sin from you, and keeping even other things from you. The start of a separated relationship begins with sin.
That is where Satan was planning to take Adam and Eve, on a division trip. He wanted Adam and Eve to betray God. Having a taste of disobedience shamed them, and now they wanted to get away from the shame and so they hid from God.
We do the same thing today, we want to obey God and we have a choice as they did, to obey Him or not. Once we step away from what God said and get a taste of sin, it has a hold on us, and pulls on us to keep from going back to God.
If you have ever tasted cake and then tried not to eat it again, it would be pretty hard. Is God trying to take cake from you? Maybe so because most cakes have some nasty ingredients that if you eat enough of it—you could die.
When my son was little I wanted him to be healthy and so I didn't introduce junk food to him. He was at church of all places and they were handing out Hostess cupcakes —he had no idea what a Hostess cupcake was until that day. He never tasted a Hostess cupcake until that day —and it happened without my permission. I would have rather he never had one. After he had one, he questioned me and wanted to know why? Of course he did not know the bad it would cause and so he had no guilt, until I told him. Then of course he wanted to please me, but still had that desire now, that he never had before.
The same thing happened with his healing. He was born with a birth defect, Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. I told him he was healed, I taught him the Word, but then as he went out into the world he was taught by another man's idea he might not be healed.
It was so much harder to guide him in the truth after he heard the lie. As it turned out the road for his healing has been taking longer than it would have if he wouldn't have eaten off the tree, of good and evil.
If I were to do it over I may have kept him home and never let him out there. But —if I did that then he might have lost his healing anyway.
Now he has had the opportunity to see both good and evil, as we do and choose his healing rather than suffer from the bad that is out there. Now he has chosen/is learning not to eat off the tree, not to feed on the lies of the enemy —but only eat the good fruit.
Genesis 2:9 And out of the ground the Lord God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight or to be desired—good (suitable, pleasant) for food; the tree of life also in the center of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of [the difference between] good and evil and blessing and calamity.
