Jesus is going to return soon—but before He returns He wants to tell us things to come. He wants us to know ahead of time what our future holds even before it happens. He wants us to be able to make a clear choice with His exact knowledge —of where we want to spend our eternity.
Thus, He is asking that we engage in His truths so we are not ignorant of the plans that He has for us—the good things to come. He so longs that we live with Him —and His faith for that to happen is in His love for us. His faith is in us —knowing Him and the good plan He has for us.
First then concerning His return, we need to know He is not late.
His return has been postponed because it is not His will that we make the wrong choice. He doesn't want us to be ignorant of the choice we have been making thus far, so He is waiting for us to listen.
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord does not delay and is not tardy or slow about what He promises, according to some people’s conception of slowness, but He is long-suffering (extraordinarily patient) toward you, not desiring that any should perish, but that all should turn to repentance.
I love what He is saying here —He is not saying we are not going to make it, but He is saying we are not ready. He has faith in us that we will respond. If He didn't have faith in us—He wouldn't be waiting. Why would He be so patient if we were not going to make it? He wouldn't bother warning us of things to come if we were not going to get it. I love His faith and how His faith brings light, peace, and hope to us. Just knowing He is waiting, is encouraging.
Jesus is loving us by telling us things to come. Now He is waiting for us to respond to His love and prepare for Him to return.
If we want to live with Him one day, then we have to respond by preparing for that day. We respond by engaging in His truth. His truth is in His Word. Check back tomorrow for the remainder of this message.
